Gints Gabrāns "STARIX - How to get on TV"
|
New Media Art In 2001 the Latvian Centre of Contemporary Art was established in Riga. There are plans for a Museum of Contemporary Art in Andrejsala: a donation of one million lats toward the development of the art collection to be housed there has already been received from a commercial bank.
The young artists create audiovisual performances, installations; video, environmental, photo and computer art. RIXC, the New Media Centre under the leadership of Rasa and Raits Šmits is most active. The declared objective of the Centre is to break the ice between the various co-existing cultures: youth, minority, new media, underground and popular culture.
The group F5 unites the alumni of the Department of Visual Communication of the Latvian Academy of Art under the guidance of artist and teacher Ojārs Pētersons. Fascinating projects are produced by Gints Gabrāns and Kaspars Vanags’ bureau Open. An interesting artistic environment has developed around gallery K@2 in Liepāja. The Art and Culture Project Noass is a floating exhibition space shared by poets, artists, photographers for various multimedia events. |
