Lifsics, choir "Latvija" to receive Grand Music Award
Conductor Tovijs Lifsics will receive the 2011 Latvian Grand Music Award for lifetime achievement. For outstanding international achievement and favorable publicity for Latvia, a Grand Music Award will also be presented to the State Choir "Latvija" and its musical director Maris Sirmais.
Nominees for the Grand Music Award in seven other categories - primarily in the classical genre - were also announced. After a two-year pause, winners will also receive a cash prize of LVL 1,000.
The awards ceremony will take place in the National Opera House on March 6 this year.
The Grand Music Award, in the form of a silver statuette, is the highest prize given by the Latvian state in the field of music. In 1993, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, at the initiative of the minister of culture at the time, Raimonds Pauls, decided to establish this special honor. |
