Japanese art exhibition in Riga Bourse
From January 27 to March 11 the Riga Bourse is hosting the Japanese art exhibition "Wind Roads in Mountains" featuring over 200 exhibits from the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art.
Created between the 18th and early 20th centuries, the selection of the artwork will mostly comprise the colourful Japanese woodcuts in the ukiyo-e form (landscapes, Kabuki theatre scenes, portraits of actors and other good-looking people) by the pupils of the famous Utagawa school with Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III, 1786-1865), and Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi (1797-1862) among them.
Also on display will be decorative and applied art items - ceramics and china - featuring various cultural symbols and testifying to the rich Japanese culture.
After the exhibition all the items will be permanently displayed at the Oriental Gallery of the Riga Bourse. |
