Twilight of the Gods at LNO also next April and June
Premiered on November 19, the Latvian National Opera's (LNO) most ambitious project this year, Richard Wagner's Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods), will be also taken to the staged on November 27, April 29, June 10 and 17 next year.

Viesturs Kairišs is director and Cornelius Meister - the conductor. Set and costume design by Ieva Jurjāne.

The cast list includes Lars Cleveman, Catherine Foster, Marcus Jupither, Elisabet Strid, Johan Schinkler, Kosma Ranuer, Lyubov Sokolova, and LNO soloists Liene Kinča, Kristīne Zadovska and Aira Rūrāne. Also participating are the Latvian National Opera Orchestra and Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.

With Twilight of the Gods the LNO rounds off its project of staging Richard Wagner's epic tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen. The entire cycle will be presented in 2013, celebrating Wagner's 200th anniversary.

In Twilight of the Gods, the essential conflict between the longing for love and the greed for power - which Wagner developed and deepened during the course of the Ring's previous operas Das Rheingold, Die Walküre and Siegfried - comes to a shattering culmination. The hero Siegfried unknowingly betrays his bride Brünnhilde. She swears vengeance - and sets off a chain of tragic events that brings the world to an end.

Playing the title role will be Lars Cleveman (tenor, Sweden) who has performed at the main opera houses in Scandinavia and Europe. He has already appeared as Siegfried in the production of Wagner's Siegfried by Robert Wilson (USA).

Catherine Foster (soprano, UK) will perform the role of Brünhilde. More recently her success has included all three Brünnhildes in Der Ring des Nibelungen, performing them in such houses as Hamburg, Budapest, Aalto theater Essen and Weimar, and now also in Riga.
