New patron for LNO ballet company promises lavish 2010 season
The joint-stock company "Transport Systems" has become a patron of the Latvian National Opera`s (LNO) ballet company. "Transport Systems" will donate LVL 50,000 to the Opera`s ballet company, which will make it possible to stage Olga Žiltuhina`s modern dance performance "Aplam" (Wrong) at the LNO on March 27, and renew production of Tchaikovsky`s "Sleeping Beauty", which will premiere on May 8. |

Streičs’ feature film “Rūdolfs’ Inheritance” premieres
The screening of Director Jānis Streičs’ new feature film “Rūdolfs’ Inheritance” will start at Latvian movie theaters at the beginning of 2010. The film is based on Latvian writer Rūdolfs Blaumanis’ classic works, and deals with events that may have preceded the comedy “Tailor Days in Silmači”. Streičs also did the screenplay for the film. |

Mezzo-soprano Garanča and pianist Villeruša to receive Latvia’s Grand Music Awards
The Latvian Grand Music Awards` ("Lielā mūzikas balva", LMB) 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented March 2 to concert master and pianist Inta Villeruša, while the award for Outstanding Achievement and Popularizing Latvia Abroad will go to opera diva, mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča, as announced by the Ministry of Culture. |
